Lo que debes saber de Colombia

Our Country

Our Country
Coffee Grower

Due to its strategic location: with coastlines on both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, part of the Andes mountain chain, rain-forests and plains, Colombia has been described as a continent country. Its great natural beauty and many still unexplored places, that not many other countries in the region can match, make it a unique travel destination.

Starting with the Caribbean coast , where in the island of San Andrés the sea seems to have seven different colors; where in Cartagena , stories of pirates, of the Inquisition and of heroes of the independence, still haunt the city’s streets; where the natural, exuberance and rich archaeological past of the Tayrona natural park located close to the city of Santa Marta, considered to be one of the most beautiful bays in Latin America, mean a different travel experience; and where in the city of Barranquilla, a carnival considered as part of the world’s heritage, takes place.

On the other hand, archaeological sites such as the Lost City of the Tayrona Culture, or San Agustín, where the stone sculptures of a lost civilization remain as silent witnesses of the country’s Indian past are there to seduce and intrigue travellers as happens with the many beaches, waterfalls, pathways and the beautiful coffee-growing regions. But that is not all, for the list is endless: regions full of exotic plants and animals that would stun Darwin, mountains, plains, rainforests, ideal places in the Pacific region such as de islands of Gorgona and Malpelo for skin divers, plus the Bay of Nuquí, where whales can be easily observed once a year.

Not to mention the departments of the country’s plains called Arauca, Casanare, Meta and Vichada, ideal places for adventure and extreme sports lovers.

Vibrant urban centres where business, shopping, culture, nightlife and the beautiful young people can be found, such as the cosmopolitan Bogotá, the country’s capital, which has become an important financial, cultural and gastronomic destination; Medellín, the country’s fashion, textile and industrial centre; the beautiful and history-laden Cartagena, plus Cali, the capital of the department of Valle and Barranquilla, the capital of the department of Atlántico.
